Good morning,

I am looking into doing my A test, I have held an A2 licence 9 years and currently ride an er-6f that is restricted.

Am I insured to do this, how does insurance work in relation to MOD1 and MOD2. I'm fully comp with Hastings Direct, my licence type is down as A2 full test restricted and I've rang them up and they seemed pretty clueless about the whole thing - kept trying to change my licence type instead.

I've been quoted 545 for a 2 day refresher including bike hire and test fees but it seems OTT.

Thanks.

Bike hire will include the necessary insurance.

Sorry I should have specified I want to do this on my own bike. £455 more for 2 days and bike hire seems excessively expensive.

Stop being a tight cunt and just do it through a school. That way you get quality tuition and don't have to fuck about trying to fanny your own bike through insurance and having the restriction removed, etc.

Don't know why cunts can't just do things legit and easy instead of using all the time in the world to bodge and half-arse something to save fuck all money anyway.

You're more than welcome to send me £455 to fund the difference, hardly bodging it I'm trying to sort it all out legally. At least you live up to your username.

How much is it going to cost to have your bike de-restricted so that when the MOD 1 examiner looks at his Ipad and goes "oh this is registered as an A2 bike, do you have your certificate showing it's de-restricted?" you have it otherwise you're told to politely fuck off. That's an expense.

Next hurdle is if you now have an A class bike and you're not fully licensed then how are you getting your A class bike to the MOD 1 centre with only an A2 license? You need to get a mate with an A license to ride it there for you or take it on a trailer which is more expense.

Then you need to get insurance on the fucker which is a mission all unto itself you're going to have to ring around all the specialist bike insurance companies and plead your case to each hoping that one of them will take on your weird liability and not charge you the fucking world for the hassle of it.

You clearly don't put much value on your own time with the amount of fucking about you're going to have to do. Makes it not worth it imho.

Good luck tho cunt.

Aha the finest collection of 'C's we've seen in a while Shocked . TBH though the Chubby Irate Jock makes a fair point. Unless you are uber confident of passing without tuition it doesn't seem a bad deal, especially given the hassle.

Certificate of derestriction doesn't exist, why would it? It's also 2 screws to derestrict the bike so I can ride it to the test centre and derestrict it in the car park. The only hurdle here is the insurance.

How are you going to prove your A2 bike, which will show up as an A2 bike, is making full power for an A class MOD 1? You are going to be questioned on this. I did see a guy who brought his own bike being quizzed on this an insurance when I was doing my MOD 1.

They ain't mugs or idiots. You will be sent packing.

EDIT:

Your bike WILL be checked for compliance. It is part of the procedure for them to follow. They have ipads/tablets that they need to put your bike registration into and check.

Your answer to them on the day is "trust me guvna two screws innit ... did it in the parking lot innit".

You are a complete fanny.

Typical 'ask a question, don't like the answer and argue the toss trying to convince us' type.

Why did you actually bother askiing the question if you are going to refuse to accept the response you get?

Oh come on, he's just trying to save money. Not all off us have wads of fivers to wipe our asses with.

Yes, I would just pay the £500 if it was me, I like a quiet life but some people maybe don't have £500 to hand and he's just trying to do it cheaply.

By all means tell him it's false economy, which it is but do you need to call him a cvnt for trying to do it.

In my defence, I call everyone a cunt. Including people I like as a term of endearment Laughing

It's not just saving money. If you have a bike that's restricted down to A2 but can be easily de-restricted and be sufficient* to do a full A test you'd want to use it as you're familiar and comfortable with the bike.

In a just world you'd bung a "test day" one-off payment to your insurance company, pass and ride off into the sunset. Sorry, computer says no Sad

*The RE Interceptor, for example, is not powerful enough to use in a test and yet you need a full licence to ride one unrestricted.

Not to worry, managed to speak to somebody competent at my insurance who can provide in writing that I am insured to ride de-restricted during a test.

No bother about proving it's derestricted either, won't be necessary as there is no A2 register or whatever else it is you think it will flag up on.

Thanks for all your kind words and well wishes.

I do vaguely remember a restricted vehicle section on the form I signed. Think the guy ahead of me had to prove something - not sure if that was just because his bike was lowered.

Understand the need to try and reduce cost as it is expensive - even if you pass everything first time. Not everyone has a 1000 quid laying about.

With insurance - think there is a company that will do short term insurance periods, maybe even insure you just for the test day.

That's a list of bikes that can be used for riding on tests, if you scroll down to kawasaki er-6f you'll see that that bike can be used to do the A test unrestricted which is what I'll be doing courtesy of Hastings. It isn't an 'A2 register', like I said that doesn't exist.

Tempcover do, some insurers will cover you whilst you learn/do a test. Bikesure for example give you 60 days to pass your licence from A2 to A with their insurance.
