Yogyakarta earthquake

4 weeks before i'm due to fly back to see my family, this fucking happens. Yogyakarta is more or less my home town, if you can call it that, seeing i've been living in the UK for god near 18 years.

Got phone call this morning from my mum's mate whose house got destroyed, but i cant get in contact with my relatives. I don't know where my mum is in relation to this, nor do i know where my dad's relatives are. My dad's house which he grew up in will be royally fucked as it was of a dutch architecture slap bang in the middle of the city. Uncle owns a hotel and when i was in a quake of 5.7 there a few years ago, it felt shit scary but no damage was done, this several hundreds the intensity of that so i don't know whether they'll still be alive or not - got a family of about 20 in the hotel including nephews and cousins.

Don't really know what to do really. I pretty much gave up religion over uni so it's not going to be much good eh.

Least the most you can do is keep them in your thoughts.

Cheers

Titot

No offence, but you'd think your parents might've decided it wasn't safe to live there by now. After that Volcano a couple of weeks ago aswell. Confused

I'm praying for them though dude.

Got a call late this afternoon to say that all's safe. Uncle's hotel received very little damage. I guess it's been used to quakes in the old days. Been in a few myself so it becomes as much as a yearly occurrance. Historically, Yogyakarta is important as it doesn't only have royal connections dating back to centuries, it's also indonesia's academic heartland with 3 top universities located within the region. Nevertheless i guess people have to adapt to their surroudings. Been doing it for the millenia so why cock up now. Won't be surprising this summer if i post a thread about having to sift through rubble or something like that as a result of another quake.

My dad's going with a support team from his works, he works for some managerial team building sort of organisiation. From what i was informed, my Uncle's hotel is under threat of being completely flattened, not because of its physical integrity, but because the adjacent hotel is a 5 storey block which substained substantial damage.

What sucks big time is the fact that my parent's car got ambushed the other day resulting my mum's purse being snatched. They were on their way to Yogyakarta from Jakarta when in traffic, some fucking muslim scum deflated my rent's tyres. Mom and dad got out to investigate and tend to the problems when they snatched my mum's purse. Well just cos my old man drives about in a blacked out black nissan X-trail to look safe and imposing doesn't necessarily mean you can jack them. I told my dad to keep his car lock as a weapon beside him all the time. Any fucker tries that on me, i will gratuitously castrate them and skin their banjo strings and use em on their fuckin cheap ass ukelalies. Sure it's a fucking earthquake but you don't have to exploit the good nature of 2 pensioners!

This summer i think is going to suck and i can understand people saying that i should get the hints and not visit. Ideally 3 months is a bit too long, but seeing that i aint seen them since the start of uni, it's probably worthwhile.

I have a forboding feeling that i'll be getting into my fair share of trouble whilst over there.
