I must have missed that.
I'm just going out on a limb here...ahem...But I strongly suspect that the doctor's dangle wasn't solely invented by Vale. Grass trackers...speedway also employ it even if it's for different and practical reasons.
This forum of armchair racers possibly isn't the best place to get the definitive answer, and from reading articles each rider has their own take on why they do it....some don't even know why themselves.
Does sticking a leg out really stop overtakes....nah...leave a gap and all's fair in love and a podium....but hey ever seen Leon Haslam drop a leg...I mean it's a miracle he's still got 2 legs.
Increases drag? Yes, physics answers that one but there are many many world champions who don't drop a leg whilst braking heavily into a corner so it if was wholly effective they'd all do it....and with both legs....obviously not at the same time...but maybe the next generation will.
Body positioning and that extra weight on the inside? Maybe.
Thumb brakes have been around for decades for loadsa reasons...everything from riders wearing out their toes due to ground clearance issues to riders in the current era using the rear brake to help turn the bike in a corner. Better feel from a thumb brake too. |
iirc taylor mckenzie said it helped him w/ arm pump (i think he might've had an operation for this earlier in 2021 - an increasingly common procedure amongst pro riders apparently)
i'm not sure how it works but i think it's supposed to take some pressure off the arms, as a leg off the peg creates more pressure on the arse / seat area thus taking *some* off the forearms during heavy braking
but i personally don't think that's why valentino rossi started doing it - imo that was probably more of an affectation / signature move that he carried over from his super moto track - it'd be interesting to see what the two dates were from when the leg dangle started, i.e. did it roughly coincide with him having his supermoto gravel track built
but anyway, when you read that some of em don't even know why they do it you have to just think ermm okay lads, you're fast and brave but mebbe not bright ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

Sam and Jake never fail to frustrate do they..
The last 3 laps of motogp were awesome though, a top battle that. I did think that Marquez was going to do a torpedo move at any point collecting them both.. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

Sam sure is testing his team's patience. Hope that Jake is given a longer opportunity.
An impressive ride by Pecco. That was maximum pressure.
Marquez was impressive too despite the battering his confidence and body have taken. Pol or Takka couldn't keep pace.
Mir was outstanding on the Suzuki, now the slowest and least developed bike on the grid. A little bit more (x) and they could be dominant are my armchair thoughts.
Jack...I want to see him find a way to have enough grip at the end of the race, similar issue with the M1.
Vinny...Hmm..still have that feeling he could either go straight to the front or languish in the lower 1/3.
Here's what to come.

Brief look at his moto2 career and specifically last year it was really close and maybe getting disqualified in Austria was a fail to far.
The champ also missed out a race due to a mechanical but Sam also retired and missed the first race plus a retirement.
In it to win it and bring home the points even if in 2nd place but too much on the limit..blah ...Margins are etc etc blah...Stay on the bike... etc..blah. consistency.
I don't want to see him in Superbikes. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

What about that track!
10 million to resurface and slim chance of that happening for next year.
Even the riders that don't complain are voicing their concerns.
Suzuki have made some big changes in readiness for next year and Honda too. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud
