Sony MDREX650APT.CE7, now £40.
I’ve had a pair for maybe 4 years and they’re pretty good.
I also tried a Cyrus Soundkey in-line amp which was great when it worked but it kept dropping out. I wasn’t sure if I had a duff one or it just didn’t work reliably with an iPhone SE.
Edit: Oh, “over-ear.” Sorry.

Try a Fiio headphone amp i have one from years ago and its mind-blowing how much it improves the sound.
I now have a Fiio Hires audio player instead of using my phone or an IPod. |

If you really must go for wired then I have no good recommendation under £50. If you can go for wireless then the Sony WH-CH510 is a decent model.
https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/headband-headphones/wh-ch510
My dad got them and they are pretty decent to my ears. I am by no means an audiophile, but here are the headphones I currently own:
Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H4 (1st Generation) - bought 2019,
Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX - bought 2021,
Bose IE (V3) - bought 2007,
Bose TriPort (AE1) - bought 2002,
Bose QuietComfort 3 - bought 2015.
I have owned some Sony and Sennheiser headphones over the course but they have all broken, been sold or lost. ____________________ PRESENT: 2018 BMW S1000XR SE Sport.

I see some good suggestions in this thread; thanks. This is my price category, and I usually spend much time choosing good headphones because I buy them only once a year or less often.
If you allow me to put my two cents in, I can recommend steelseries arctis 3 2019 edition wireless which I use now. These headphones are rather cheap, but the sound is still good, and there even is some sound cancellation which I appreciate because I live with my parents. They can also be used in both wired and wireless modes allowing me to use them all day long and not worry about the battery. |
