|
|
Hi Folks
At the risk of queering my own pitch I present this SRX 400 that caught my eye.
I fancy a cheap lightweight single of this genre to spanner/ride. BUT this has gone around teh clock (albeit in kms - so about 65k miles) too many for this motor or OK assuming regular oil changes?

Interesting. The MOT history is so clean it has never even had an advisory since 2006 ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Yeah I spotted that.. fairly consistent year on year miles too. You'd expect the odd wheel bearing, brake or swing arm bush advisory surely? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

Seems a little pricy considering 750 is the starting price ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

Exactly. Curious. So, maybe it has had a lenient/negligent garage, or the previous owner was just extremely diligent in maintenance? ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Mileage, well, at that sort of mileage you're always taking a bit of a risk. I'd say it's down to how the bike runs.
With an SRX, I think the main issues would be corrosion and electrical gremlins. Any I've seen have been real rust buckets and they were famous for the wiring going prematurely furry. That one looks like no exception. I think you'd really need to look at it and see how deep the rot goes. Are we talking cosmetics in need of a lick of paint or can you poke holes in the swingarm with a biro pen?
If it's gone round the clock, you'd also want to tally up to yourself how many other bits are rotted/worn/fucked. They could have been keeping up with ongoing maintainance or it might need a total strip and rebuild. By the time you've paid for brake rebuild kits, discs, hoses, chain and sprocket, cables, suspension bushes, forks/shocks and bearings, the cost can have more than doubled.
The engine is probably the least concering part. It's a single so if it's worn out, you need to replace one set of everything. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

Hmm isn't that the same as used on the XTs? I think my bro has one on an XT600..
..which bits go bad - the diaphragm?
